On Sept. 18, 2020, Ruth Bader Ginsburg was called to heaven. Her spirit, however, lives on. Recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings and the rulings of lower courtrooms across America are living proof.

President Obama wrote the following after the legendary Supreme Court justice passed: “Ruth Bader Ginsburg fought to the end, through her cancer, with unwavering faith in our democracy and its ideals. That’s how we remember her. But she also left instructions for how she wanted her legacy to be honored.”

Well, we know how that ended. Fortunately, that has not been the end of the story.

Aside from the raging COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 is the election year that never ends. And, yet, thanks in large measure to the spirit of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the election year is ending, and the hard work now begins.

From the highest to the lowest courts in the land, judges have rendered decisions based on the rule of law, not lies. Ginsburg would be extremely pleased and is likely smiling down from heaven.

As President Obama so eloquently stated in remembering Ginsburg, “A basic principle of the law — and of everyday fairness — is that we apply rules with consistency, and not based on what’s convenient or advantageous in the moment. The rule of law, the legitimacy of our courts, the fundamental workings of our democracy all depend on that basic principle.”

I believe the spirit of Ruth Bader Ginsburg was flowing through President Obama when he wrote those precious words. That same spirit remains alive and well in the Supreme Court and other courts and will prevail despite the anti-Democracy sentiments currently plaguing the nation.

Long live the spirit of Ruth Bader Ginsburg!!!
